The Future of the Assemblies of God

Wow!!!

For the last 8 hours I have sat with our General Superintendent, George Wood, and a host of other pastors and A/G leaders.

The context of the meeting was "what do we as a movement and leaders need to do to keep this church from becoming stagnant?"

Some comments very eye opening and sober.

What are your thoughts- what do we need to focus on and emphasize?

To be real honest Pastor, I am still crazy enough to believe for revival and a great season of deliverance. Perhaps, if we got back to basics. If I start sharing what I am thinking, I will sound like Ravenhill or Tozer. I will e-mail you my thoughts and concerns. Thomas Trask made a comment many years ago now, that if something did not happen in the A/G in a certain amount of years(I can't recall exact amount of years, 5 to 10 maybe.), that our best days were behind us. I felt his word was prophetic for us as a fellowship. Let us retrace our steps and get back to the Cross, back to the Upper Room, w/Stephen as he preached truth in spite of the price, w/Paul who was content with a cloak, a Bible and a jail cell, to Crete, realizing going nowhere really was somewhere not just anywhere. See, there I went...desperate and passionate. Dear Jesus, speak to our hearts and change our lives!

Pastor, I still believe in the power of prayer because I have seen the results in my own life and in our church. We must embrace change and new technologies but those things are simply the tools not the power. I may sound like Ravenhill, but who cares? We must never leave out the Holy Spirit factor and the only way to know the mind of the Spirit is spend some time with Him. If Jesus felt the need to spend all night in prayer, how much more should we pray more than 5 minutes a day. I know this sounds a bit old fashion, but without the power of Pentecost, Peter would have preached to only 120. But through the power of the Holy Spirit, he preached to 3000+ and the number continued to grow. If he had not spent time in prayer, how would he have ever known to go to Cornelius's home? So I believe the things we do must be framed around prayer in the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Eddie,

The future of the Assemblies of God and we as individuals and nations, will be tied to how we treat and support Israel and the Jewish people, Period.

I think Bro. Tommy said it very well. My family, who have all passed on except for my Uncle Harvey, were charter members there in Union City. My Mammaw would tell of preaching with Bro. Blythe for sacks of "taters" and driving Model A's. Pentecostal Praying Powerhouses they were and are. We are Pentecostal without apology and would should be praying like it. So many of us have had to reintroduce the Holy Ghost to the average Assemblies of God Church. Keep it up Bro. Tommy! We love you all.

WE are the Assemblies of God. Unless WE do what is necessary this fellowship will not be what God intends. Prayer cannot be excluded. When WE pray, power is released. Power released results in people changed! Personal responsiblity must be taken. Again, WE are the Assemblies of God.
